For the first time ever, Disney is coming out with its first movie featuring an African American princess! The musical will be opening this month in New York and Los Angeles and everywhere else in December.
The story is set in New Orleans where the princess Tiana is a working waitress. She only imagines being royal and has hopes of opening a french restaurant.
Broadway singer and Dreamgirls Anika Noni Rose will be starring as Tiana and songs will be written by Randy Newman. Oprah Winfrey will be doing the voice for Tiana's mother.
So far the movie has made great reviews with Time magazine calling it a "start-to-finish delight." Entertainment Weekly also says that the G-rated movie is "a fresh twist on the classic fairy tale."
I am a HUGE Disney movie fan and since I am also an African American female, I am extremely excited about this movie coming out and I hope that it is another Disney hit!
